Abu Dhabi runs the same federal traffic fines as the rest of the UAE, but it handles discounts, instalments and payments its own way through TAMM and Abu Dhabi Police. This guide covers what the common Abu Dhabi traffic fines cost in 2026, how to cut them with the emirate’s discounts, and why the black points behind a fine can still cost you your licence. To see your suspension risk in seconds, use our UAE black points calculator.
How Abu Dhabi traffic fines work in 2026
Fines are issued under the UAE Federal Traffic Law and attached to your plate and traffic file, so the dirham amounts match Dubai and the other emirates. What differs is the discount and payment layer: Abu Dhabi Police, TAMM and the MOI app handle inquiry and payment, and unpaid fines block your vehicle registration renewal. Serious violations still add black points and, at the top end, impoundment.

Abu Dhabi traffic fine discounts through TAMM
Abu Dhabi’s discount structure is more generous on timing than Dubai’s. Paying within 60 days earns a 35% discount, and paying within a year still earns 25% – both applied automatically when you pay through TAMM in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police. On top of that, seasonal campaigns around Ramadan, Eid, UAE National Day and the Abu Dhabi Police anniversary can push the discount to between 25% and 50%. As always, a discount only reduces the dirham amount – it never removes the black points. Compare the tiers across emirates in our UAE traffic fine discounts guide.

Instalment plans for Abu Dhabi fines
For larger fines, Abu Dhabi supports 0% interest instalment plans through banks including First Abu Dhabi Bank and ADCB. The typical minimum is AED 1,000 with tenures of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, so a big penalty can be spread without adding interest. It is the cleaner option when a single fine would otherwise strain the month.
Black points still apply in Abu Dhabi
Black points are federal, so Abu Dhabi uses the same 24-point ceiling as the rest of the country. Reach 24 points in 12 months and your licence is suspended for 3 months, then 6 months, then a year with a retest. Points fall off 12 months after the offence. A cheap, discounted fine can still carry the points that tip you over, which is why the black points system matters more than the receipt.
