Housemaids, nannies, drivers, cooks and other domestic workers in the UAE earn end of service benefits too – at a different rate from office workers. This calculator uses the established standard of 14 days of basic pay per completed year of service.

How domestic worker gratuity works
The daily wage is the monthly basic salary divided by 30. For each completed year of continuous service, the worker earns 14 days of that daily wage – half the 21-day rate that applies to private sector employees in their first five years. At least one full year of service is required before any benefit is due.
A note on the legal status
Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022, which governs domestic workers, deferred the precise gratuity mechanism to Cabinet resolutions. In practice, the 14-days-per-year standard carried over from the previous framework and remains the reference used in MOHRE’s own tools. For disputes, MOHRE’s domestic worker channels (80060) adjudicate.
For employers budgeting a household
Gratuity is one line in the real cost of sponsoring a domestic worker – visa fees, medical insurance, flight tickets and the salary itself add up. Our domestic worker cost calculator (coming in a later phase) will give the full annual picture. Meanwhile, employees on standard work visas should use the main UAE gratuity calculator.
