Frequently asked questions
How much is the overstay fine in the UAE?
AED 50 per day for every visa type. In February 2026 the ICP unified the rate across all emirates and visa categories - the old distinction between tourist and residence overstay rates is gone.
Is there a grace period after my visa expires?
Tourist and visit visas have no grace period - fines start the day after expiry. Standard residence visa holders typically get 30 days after cancellation or expiry, and Golden Visa, Green Visa and investor categories get up to 180 days.
Can overstay fines be reduced or waived?
The ICP periodically runs amnesty and waiver programmes, and fines can sometimes be reduced when you regularise your status or change visa status inside the country. Check the current ICP campaigns before paying in full.

How the 2026 overstay rules work

The ICP unified the fine at AED 50 per day for everyone – tourists, residents, all emirates. What differs is the grace period: tourist and visit visas get none (fines start the day after expiry), standard residence visas get 30 days after expiry or cancellation, and Golden, Green and investor visas get up to 180 days. Fines are settled when you exit, renew or change status – and periodic ICP amnesty campaigns can reduce them, so check before paying a large amount.

Act before the fine compounds

At AED 50/day, a month of drift costs AED 1,500 and a year exceeds AED 18,000 – plus potential entry bans for long overstays.
