Thinking of resigning and wondering what happens to your gratuity? Under the current UAE labour law the answer is simple: nothing. You keep every dirham of accrued end of service gratuity when you resign, exactly as if you were terminated. This calculator shows your number – including the old rules if your contract predates February 2022.

Resignation and gratuity under the current law
Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 pays gratuity for completed service regardless of who ends the contract. The requirements are the same for everyone: at least one year of continuous service, calculated on your last basic salary at 21 days per year for the first five years and 30 days after, capped at two years of pay.
Resigning the right way
Serve your contractual notice – typically 30 to 90 days. Leaving without notice lets your employer deduct compensation in lieu of notice from your settlement, which can eat a meaningful chunk of your gratuity. Get your full picture with the final settlement calculator, which adds leave encashment and pending salary, and check the leave salary calculator if you have unused annual leave.
If your contract is older than February 2022
The legacy unlimited-contract rules reduced gratuity on resignation – one third for 1-3 years of service, two thirds for 3-5 years. Toggle the contract era in the calculator above to compare, or read the full breakdown on the unlimited contract calculator page.
