How Dubai taxi fares are built
Three parts: a flagfall when the meter starts (AED 5 daytime, 5.5 at night, 25 from airport ranks), roughly AED 2.20 per kilometre, and a minimum fare of AED 12 (13 at night) so very short hops don’t come out cheaper. Waiting time in traffic adds a little, and Salik crossings are passed to you at cost – our Salik calculator covers those gates.
Taxi vs the alternatives
For a daily commute the comparison is stark: a 15 km taxi ride runs about AED 38 each way, while the same trip on the Metro costs AED 5-7.5 on a silver Nol card. Careem and Uber typically price 20-30% above street taxis outside surge hours. If you’re taxiing daily, run our car loan and fuel cost calculators – ownership often breaks even around AED 1,500-2,000 of monthly taxi spend.
