Frequently asked questions
How much is the Dubai Metro fare in 2026?
With a silver nol card: AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones and AED 7.50 for three or more. Gold class doubles those; blue concession cards halve them; red paper tickets cost AED 4/6/8.50 per trip.
Is there a daily spending cap?
Yes - silver and blue nol cards stop charging at AED 14 per day across metro, tram and buses, no matter how many trips you take.
When is a monthly pass worth it?
Roughly at 40+ trips per month. Monthly zone passes start around AED 140 for one zone (silver), so a daily two-zone commuter usually saves money on a pass - and it removes the daily-cap math entirely.

Understanding Nol fares and zones

Dubai’s public transport network is split into 7 zones, but pricing only cares whether you cross 1, 2, or 3+ of them. On a standard silver card that’s AED 3, 5 and 7.5. Gold class (the front cabin) doubles it, blue personalised cards give students and seniors 50% off, and paper red tickets cost more per trip – fine for tourists, wasteful for anyone staying a month.

The daily cap does the math for you

Silver card spending caps at AED 14 per day no matter how many trips you take, which makes multi-stop days effectively flat-rate. Heavy commuters should also price the monthly zone passes against capped daily spend. Comparing against driving? Add up fuel, Salik and parking – the Metro usually wins by a wide margin on a Sheikh Zayed Road commute.
